Margaret Caldwell Obituary

Grafton/Northborough – Margaret L. “Pat”, (Cawley) Caldwell, aged 106, died Friday, March 1st following a brief decline in her health at Whitney Place Assisted Living Northborough where she had resided for the past 11 years. She lovingly called Whitney her Safe Haven and was the oldest resident.


Pat was born in Hyannis, MA at Cape Cod Hospital, the daughter of the late Rev. Norman B. and Laura A. (Fiellin) Cawley, and was the wife of the late John H. Caldwell who died in 2002. She was a graduate of Sharon High School, Class of 1934 and Perry Normal School, Class of 1938. In 1944, Pat and her husband John moved to Grafton where they made their home for the next 58 years and raised their family.


Mrs. Caldwell was very proud of the impact she had on the many children she taught during her career as a school teacher. She spent 2 years in the Uxbridge Public Schools and then taught in the Sutton Public Schools from 1959 through 1978. A member of the Grafton-Upton Unitarian Universalist Society, she sang in the church choir for several years as well as belonged to the Women’s Alliance. Pat was a former Girl Scout Leader, PTA past president, and past president of the AFS and hosted 2 exchange students from Brazil and Cyprus. She enjoyed music of all genres, particularly classical, and travelled often to Tanglewood with several of her friends. She was part of a Quartet with friends Pinky, Phoebe, and Margey that met weekly to play the four-handed classics of Brahams and Handel on grand pianos. Pat is survived by her children Marijean (Paul) Lamoureaux of Sudbury, Craig (Robert) of Taunton, and Robert (Elizabeth) of New Hampshire. 10 Grandchildren, 23 Great Grandchildren, and 4 Great Great Grandchildren, 1 niece and 2 nephews. She was predeceased by her husband John H. , and 2 sons John O. Caldwell (JOC) 1963, David Caldwell (1998), and her daughter Patricia A. Benson (1979).


Following Pat’s request, services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are under the care of Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester Street, NorthGrafton, MA 01536.
