Robert M. “Bob” Grunert, Sr, 90, of Effingham, KS passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024, at Atchison Senior Village with family by his side.

A visitation with family will begin at 10:00 am on Sat. March 16th, 2024, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral home with a graveside service and burial of cremated remains to follow at 11:00 am, at Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Atchison, KS. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Atchison Senior Village or the St. Croix Hospice and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Bob was born on September 29th, 1933, the son of Adolph M. and Bertha M. (Rau) Grunert. He lived a very happy active life filled with family and friends. Robert served honorably in the Army National Guard and the Atchison County Fire and Rescue Team for several years. Bob was married to Katherine Reeves on Oct. 19th, 1979. He worked as a wrecker/Tow Truck Driver for the former Berridge Garage, Atchison. Later he worked at McCormick Distillery, Weston, MO, Orscheln, Atchison, and then as sexton for the Mt. Vernon Cemetery for over 20 years. He spent a majority of his retirement tinkering and building a variety of projects and enjoyed spending time with his dog “Petey”.

Robert is survived by his wife Kathy Grunert, of the home in Effingham, KS, two sons Robert Grunert, Jr, Topeka, KS, Roger Grunert, Atchison, KS, a daughter JoAnn Grunert, St. Joseph, MO, a stepson John Stirton, Effingham, KS a daughter Penny (John) Wilbourn, Effingham, KS, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Fredrick Grunert, and two sisters, Virginia Kinsey and Helen L. Engel.
