Jerry Bernstein Obituary

Jerry was born in Youngstown Ohio on January 2, 1931. He passed away peacefully in his home on March 1, 2024.

When Jerry was young he served in the Coast Guard with his first cousin and best friend Paul Gluck. They spoke on the phone daily throughout Jerry‘s life. Jerry later went to the local college in Youngstown and golfed every day at the golf course across the street from the home he grew up in on Gypsy Lane. He loved golfing. Jerry enjoyed playing tennis especially at his own private tennis court. Jerry was an outdoor person that loved bike riding, boating, fishing and snow skiing. He taught and inspired his children all about these activities while sharing quality time and building wonderful memories growing up with our father. Today we still have a love of boating, biking and snow skiing. He also very much enjoyed woodworking, inventing things, working with his hands and did all the repairs on his rental properties himself. He was universally certified in air-conditioning and was very proud of this. Dad had a huge love for cooking. He taped all of his favorite recipes to the inside of his kitchen cabinets. He would enjoy listening to his favorite music while cooking. He loved Dinah Washington, Johnny Lee and earlier in his life he would listen to Country and Western music and music by Captain and Tennille and the Carpenters. After a hard days work he would enjoy kicking back and watching one of his favorite movies out of his extensive movie collection like Blast from the Past and An officer and a Gentleman.

Jerry was a successful entrepreneur and very hard worker. He owned a very profitable wholesale company and retail chain of women’s clothing stores. He eventually sold them and bought up real estate and became a very lucrative real estate investor.

Jerry loved his family very much. We will forever miss him.

Jerry is survived by his son Lenny Bernstein, his daughters Amy Laidlaw & Jill Rudman, his grandchildren Jason Lane, Brandon Lane, Brian Lane, David Rudman and Becca Rudman & his children’s mother Lana Sue Oyer.

Services will be held at Beth Israel Cemetery 305 S 35th Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85009 on Friday March 15, 2024 at 11:15 AM. Celebration of life to follow.
