Obituary

Lorne Baccardax

Age 70, of Hubbards Nova Scotia passed at the Halifax Infirmary March 5th 2024. It is with great sadness that Lorne's family said goodbye to their loving husband and father after an unexpected health complication.

Lorne is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Lenette Baccardax; his two daughters, Alexi (Josh Westcott) and Shelley (Geoff Pearson); grandchildren, Jonah and Linden Westcott, Oliver and Aiden Pearson; as well as ten nieces and nephews who he cared for deeply.

Lorne grew up in River Bourgeois, Cape Breton, with his parents, the late Tobie and Cecilia Baccardax and his siblings, including his late sister Faye (the late Roger), Don (Jean), Sally, his late sister Joan, and Peter (Sherry).

Lorne graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education degree. Lorne started working at Yellow Cab in Halifax in the early 1980’s, where he became general manager until his retirement in 2013. Lorne met many people through this work, many of whom remained lifelong friends.

Lorne met the love of his life, Lenette in Edmonton Alberta, who he married in 1983. They lived together in Hubbards for the past forty five years where they raised their two daughters. Lorne loved to spend time with his family exploring the outdoors including nature walks, fishing, boating, gardening and working in the woods. Lorne was very proud of the accomplishments of his two daughters. As his daughters grew up to have families of their own, he also became a proud “Papa” who loved to visit and play with his four grandsons.

In addition to being an amazing Father, Husband and Papa, Lorne was also a very caring person in the community, often seeking to help people in need of help with everyday tasks, which resulted in several long-lasting friendships. He loved to get together with his friends and family to share stories, his love of life and laughter over a drink.

Lorne’s family and friends will miss him dearly but will celebrate his life the way they know he would have wanted.

Lorne's family wishes to thank the staff, nurses and doctors at the QEII Infirmary in Halifax and also a special thank you to Peter, Sherry and Joseph Baccardax for their unwavering support in Lorne’s final days.
