Darla Rae Butcher Obituary

Darla Rae Butcher, a cherished soul whose kindness and loving nature touched the lives of all who knew her, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on March 4, 2024, in her hometown of Dayton, OH, after a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on August 19, 1963, in the same city, Darla's life was a testament to her hard-working nature and love for her family.

Darla was a proud graduate of Wayne High School, where she cultivated a passion for learning. Darla's work ethic and dedication were evident to all as she excelled in her role as an Electrical Assembly Technician at Honeywell, where she worked for five years. Her colleagues all loved her dearly and enjoyed working with her. She had been living in Columbus for the past several years and was a proud Buckeye fan. One of the most remarkable achievements in her life was when she found recovery, Darla would have celebrated 2 years of sobriety on June 7th. This is the greatest gift she gave her family.

Music played a significant role in her life, particularly the songs of Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters. She was a dedicated fan. But above all, Darla was devoted to her family. She took immense pride in her role as "Mimi," a loving and devoted grandma who cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren, Salem, Watson, Olivia and Alexander. Her love extended to her faithful support dog, Winston, who was by her side providing comfort and companionship whenever he could.

Darla's family was the cornerstone of her existence. She is survived by a loving circle of family members, including her mother, Jane Butcher; her aunt, Eileen Wade; her daughter, Alexandria Bilbrey; her son, Christopher Bilbrey; her daughter-in-law, Megan Bilbrey; and her adored grandchildren. Each of these individuals was a source of immense joy and pride for Darla. Darla was equally loved by her AA family. From the moment she walked into her homegroup, she was surrounded by women who loved her unconditionally and were blessed with Darla’s immense heart, hugs, hope, and happiness. They will all miss her dearly.

Darla's life was a beautiful melody, composed of moments of joy, acts of kindness, and an enduring love that resonated with everyone she met. While her physical presence is no longer with us, her melody will continue to play in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.

A Celebration of Darla’s Life will be held at Woodland Cemetery Mausoleum on March 22, 2024 at 12PM.

A luncheon (AKA Repast) will follow at Oakwood United Methodist Church for friends and family to gather and share their memories of her. Her family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the support and compassion shown during this difficult time.

"The song has ended but the melody lingers on."

~ May She Rest In Peace ~
