Peter Corr Royston Obituary

Peter Corr Royston, 88, of Norfolk, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.  He was the beloved husband of 42 years to Eleanor F. Royston.

Peter was born on April 26, 1935 in Bridgeport, Connecticut to the late John Peter and Elizabeth Mylod Royston (McNamara).  Peter was the eldest child of the "magnificent seven" Peter, Paul, David, Mimi, Ellen, Chris and Maxie.

Peter lived with his family in Japan from 1947 - 1951 where his father was an insurance executive under the staff of General Douglas McArthur, an appointment made by President Harry Truman.  Peter later came back to the US to attend Cranwell Preparatory School in Lenox, MA from which he graduated in 1954.  He then went to Fordham University in Bronx, NY graduating in 1958.  After  graduation until his retirement he was a successful stockbroker living in Fairfield, CT.

He enjoyed the outdoors and often started the kickball, baseball games and Badminton team tournaments in the neighborhood.  He enjoyed racquetball, winning several competitions.  He loved to read.   Peter enjoyed all sports and was a life long Boston Red Sox fan.

He loved going to Block Island with the family and spent many summers in the home, originally owned by his Uncle Jack McNamara. He always said the most beautiful sunsets were on the west side and could be seen from the porch.   He shared his enjoyment of picking wild black berries, snipe hunting,  clamming, ocean body surfing and beach bonfires with all of his children.

He traveled with his wife Eleanor to many places all over the world. They shared countless fun adventures.  Together, they lived each day with hope, happiness, faith, but most of all love.

Peter is survived by his wife, Eleanor.  He is the cherished father of eight children, Anne (Chuck) Gilmore, Kathryn (Paco) Caceres, John (Jorge) Royston, James (Sylvia) Royston, Michael (partner Lisa) Royston, Mimi (Sarah) Royston, Libby (Joe) Lindstrom, and Sean (Marisa) Muldowney.

Peter known as "Poppy" adored his seventeen  grandchildren:  Katie, Kayleigh, Eileen, Peter,  Christopher, Ashley, Khemrin, Tommy, Victoria, Kaila, Katie, Joe, Cassidy, Sofia, Morgan, Delaney and Scarlet as well as three great-grandchildren: Ella, Jackson and Lucas. He is known for giving them ice cream for breakfast or any occasion.  He handed down the love of  ice cream to us all.

Peter is survived by his siblings:  David (Eunice) Royston, Ellen Stimpson, Chris (Becky) Royston and Maxie (Joselu) Igartua; his in-laws: Delores Royston, MaryAnn (John) Harrigan and Maureen Mahoney.  As well as by many nieces and nephews.
