Avelina Mendoza Cheng Obituary

Avelina “Letty” M. Cheng, 78, of Rancho Cordova, CA, passed away on May 19, 2018 at her home. Rosary, Viewing and Visitation will be from 5 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at East Lawn Elk Grove Mortuary in Elk Grove, CA. Funeral services will be held 10 AM to 11 AM on May 31, 2018 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Elk Grove, CA with Fr. Lester Menor officiating. Burial will follow at 2 PM at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA. Avelina was born in Naguilian, La Union, Philippines to Arnulfo and Agapita Mendoza on October 6, 1939. She married Teodorico “Teddy” Cheng on January 14, 1962. They moved to the United States when Teddy enlisted in the US Navy. They were stationed at submarine bases along the eastern seaboard of the US with one station in Rota, Spain. In Spain, with three sons, they traveled around Europe experiencing the different cultures, art, history, food, and landmarks. In their retirement, Avelina and Teddy continued to travel between homes in the US and Philippines and to many reunions. Avelina worked with finances as a store controller, casino cashier and Certified Teller at Bank of America. She was also an Auditor for the United Naguilian, La Union Circle of America, Inc. (UNLUCAI). Avelina enjoyed the company of friends and family from Naguilian and was a very active UNLUCAI club member. Avelina loved to dance and enjoyed ballroom and line dancing. She could be seen on the dance floor at the many UNLUCAI Reunions she and Teddy attended. Avelina is survived by her husband, Teodorico; Children and Spouses, Michael and Nancy, Richard and Tammy, and Edward; Three Sisters and One Brother, Fe “Tina”, Lolita “Lolit”, Perlita “Perling”, and Triunfo “Amboy”; Grandchildren, Isabel, Cooper, Amanda, and Christopher; and Great-Grandchildren, Samantha, Charlotte and Weston.
