With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Darrell Downs, a remarkable individual whose life was defined by service, success, and boundless warmth. Darrell departed this world on March 1, 2024, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished for generations to come.

Darrell is survived by his son Darren Downs, grandchildren Garrett and Zachary Downs, and daughter-in-law April Downs. He is also survived by his sister Liz Frank, and niece, Lisa Frank. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Downs, father, Bud Downs, wife, Lois Downs, and son, John Downs.

Born with an unwavering sense of duty, Darrell proudly served as a medic in the Army during the tumultuous era of the Vietnam War. His courage on the battlefield and unwavering dedication to his military comrades epitomized his profound commitment to serving his country.

Transitioning to civilian life, Darrell embarked on a distinguished career path, working his way up to Vice President/Banker at Frost Bank. He then went on to work at USAA as an underwriter, before retiring early to care for his mother during her battle with cancer.

However, Darrell found the most joy in the simple pleasures of life. Whether casting his line into the waters at Rockport, delighting in the laughter of his beloved grandchildren, hosting delicious Bar-B-Que’s, or engaging in spirited card games, he radiated an infectious zest for life.

A memorial service will be held Friday, March 29, 2024, at Finch Funeral Chapel, Nixon, Texas. Interment will take place at Nixon Cemetery immediately following.

Darrell Downs will be deeply missed by his adoring family, cherished friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of kindness, integrity, and unwavering dedication will continue to insp8ire and uplift us all. May he rest in eternal peace.
