Robert Alexander Jefferson Jr. Obituary

Robert Alexander Jefferson, Jr. was born March 17, 1944 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Robert Jefferson and Pearl Jefferson-Dean. The family relocated to Muskegon, Michigan where Robert attended Muskegon Heights Public Schools. He was a member of the graduating class of 1962.

Robert enlisted in the United States Airforce and served his country as a Material Facilities Specialist. Following his four year service tour he gained employment with Consumers Power Company and worked at the B.C. Cobb Plant as a Utility Worker. He later advanced to a leadership role as a Supervisor. He was one of the first African Americans employed by Consumers and was featured in the 1967 edition of the Muskegon Heights Times Newspaper noting the opportunities for advancement afforded him by the company. (See center photo on the following page). He retired from Consumers in 2003 following 36 years of dedicated service.

Robert was a hard worker and excellent provider for his family. He worked every day! He loved to dress, always kept nice vehicles and enjoyed traveling in his leisure. He was a sports enthusiast and especially enjoyed watching his second eldest son, Kelsey, play basketball at both the high school and collegiate levels. He was a man of few words, yet his presence was always known. He passed away March 3, 2024 after a lengthy illness at age 79. He will be missed.

To cherish his memory Robert leaves: three children, Robert (Robbie) Jefferson of Denver, Colorado, Marcus (Tiara) Jefferson of Columbus, Ohio and Maurice (Andrisa) Jefferson of Marshfield, Massachusetts; two special ladies who were like daughters to him, Anitra (Stanley, Jr.) Cunningham of Muskegon, Michigan (along with her children: Jaleal Wilson, Justice, Jada and Stanley Cunningham) and Latina ( Carlos) Piggee of Muskegon Heights, Michigan (along with her children: Lord Che Thomas and Armani Piggee); two sisters, Barbara Cheeks and Yvonne Ross, both of Muskegon, Michigan; one brother, Michael Jefferson of Atlanta, Georgia; one aunt, Aunt Dean of Dayton, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Maurice, Jr., Ana, Amora and Myles Jefferson, Nyla Johnson, Trinity and Marcus Jefferson, Jr., Chelsea Wilson and Kylan Autman and a host of additional family members and friends, all who knew the special place they held in his heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Tommie Jefferson, two sisters, Connie Porter and Jackie Trice, an aunt, Maude Walker and one son, Kelsey Wilson.
