Ruth F. (Latendresse) Kennen Obituary

Ruth Frances (Latendresse) Kennen, 94 passed away peacefully on Saturday March 2, 2024 at Notre dame Long Term Care in Worcester, surrounded by her family.


She was born January 6,1930 in Worcester, Ma to Cecelia (Drohan) Latendresse and Francis Latendresse. Ruth was the middle sister to Lorraine (Latendresse) Ocker of Las Vegas, NV who predeceased her and Joan (Latendresse) Krause of Northborough, MA.


Ruth married the love of her life, Arthur Roland Kennen in 1949; who predeceased her in 1969 and together they had five children. They raised their family in Auburn, MA, where Ruth lived for more than 72 years. She was intensely proud of her children, grandchildren, and their growing families. The oldest, Wayne Kennen of Warren, MA predeceased her in 2015; leaving his three daughters Sarah, Rachel, and Rebecca. Ruth also leaves her daughters, Jill (Kennen) Mayo and her husband Kevin of Enfield CT, along with their three children Brian, Dan and his wife Katrina, Nate, and his wife Stephanie. Joy (Kennen) Leclaire and her husband Stephen of Sutton, MA and their two children Lauren and Benjamin. June (Kennen) Blair and her husband Scott of Reunion, FL and their two children Megan and Chloe. Her youngest son James Kennen and his wife Vivian and their daughter Maybelline of Auburn, MA. She also leaves numerous great grandchildren.


Ruth worked for many years and retired from The Travelers Insurance Company in Worcester, MA, prior to that she worked at the Auburn Town Hall. After retiring she worked part time for Service Merchandise in Auburn. She was an avid volunteer and participant at the Auburn Senior Center, answering phones and helping in the office in a variety of other ways. While active in the Senior Center, Ruth enjoyed yoga, strength exercise classes and playing Scrabble. She took many trips with the Senior Center the highlight being the trip to Alaska.


While her children were young, she volunteered as a girl scout troop leader and was in numerous clubs and activities at The First Congregational Church in Auburn.


A voracious reader, she always had a new book nearby. She was an enthusiastic gardener and power walker. She had many hobbies, including jewelry and basket making.


She was a wonderful Mother and an incredibly strong person, always there to support her children and grandchildren in any way she could. Ruth was fiercely independent and lived alone in her home in Auburn until a fall in 2019 resulted in a move to an assisted living facility and eventually to Notre Dame Long-Term Care in Worcester, MA, where she peacefully passed away while in hospice care.


In lieu of flowers donations in Ruth's name may be made to Notre Dame Long Term Care, 559 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA 01605.


Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Ruth’s family on Saturday, March 9, 2024 from 9:30-11:00 AM followed by a brief prayer service at 11:00 AM at the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central Street, Auburn. She will be buried next to her husband in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn.
