Gordon W. Scholz Obituary

Gordon W. Scholz, resident of Shelby Township, died peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on March 4, 2024. He was 85 years of age.

Gordy was born on October 10, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Wilfred and Dorothy (Schim) Scholz. He served our country honorably in the U.S. Army during peacetime from 1960 to 1963. After his discharge, he started a career at General Motor’s for 44 dedicated years, retiring as the Senior Processor Engineer. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball and especially loved playing football. He played on three baseball teams and participated in bowling through his church. In recent years, Gordy was an avid fan of all sports that his children and grandchildren were involved in. He was their biggest fan and never missed a game. He was always there for his family, willing to go on road trips to see his grandchildren, and always giving them all words of encouragement. Gordy treasured his time with the great grandchildren and looked forward to being their nanny every Tuesday. Gordon loved the Lord and loved serving others through volunteering at the Capuchin Soup Kitchen and Gifts for All God’s Children. He enjoyed worshiping at Faith Lutheran Church of Troy and looked forward to his Bible Study Groups. Gordy will be deeply missed, and his light will continue to glow in our hearts forever.

Gordon is survived by his loving daughters, Gloria (Steve) Smith, Gwen (Bob) DuCharme and Gayle (Michael) Malesky; dear step-children, Jim (Teri) Pohl and Nancy (John) Mitchell; cherished grandchildren; Jeremy (Alyssa) Smith, Stephanie (Billy) Stephenson Adam (Kira), Erik (Angie Caceres), Aaron (Shyanne) and Laura (Paul Blankemeyer) DuCharme, Tyler (Rachel Ban) Alcantara, Siena (Josh) Scott, Micah (Tyler Meredith) Alcantara, and Isabella and Olivia Malesky, Brittany Genova and Brian (Samantha) Genova; his adored great grandchildren, Lane and Miles Smith, Esther and Nicodemus Scott, Addilyn Stephenson, and Paisley and Chloe’ DuCharme; and his dear sisters, Joan (Dennis) Dunn and Marilyn (late William) Holladay. He was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine Scholz; former wife, Gertrude Scholz; and grandsons, Nicholas and Ryan Smith.
