Pat Meloy Obituary

Patrick “Pat” Meloy, 84 of Danville, formerly of Ottumwa, died at 12:41 a.m. March 4, 2024 at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

He was born June 6, 1939 in Iowa City to Harlan and Thelma Scott Meloy. He married Angie Gesualdo July 1, 1967 and she preceded him in death February 1, 2019.

A 1957 graduate of Hedrick High School, Pat joined the US Navy, serving on the supply ship, the USS Castor. Upon discharge, Pat moved to Ottumwa where he was a machine operator for John Deere Ottumwa Works before becoming a custodian for Indian Hills Community College.

Pat was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He enjoyed listening to rock music and researching genealogy. He was a lifetime member of Walter B. Schafer #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion, as well as United Auto Workers Local #74.

Surviving are his children, Amy (Timothy) Gerst of Danville and Sean (Kara) Meloy of Cedar Rapids; 3 grandchildren, Braden Gerst, Hunter Intorf and Sam Meloy; 2 great-grandchildren, Jackson and Angela Gerst; and a half-sister, Kathy Meloy of Colorado Springs, CO.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harlan Meloy; his mother and step-father, Thelma and Claude Cecil “Jack” Mefford; and 2 infant siblings, Judy Marie Nace and David Lee Nace.

Visitation will be open from noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 6th at Reece Funeral Home. The family will be present to greet friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, March 7th at Reece Funeral Home with military honors conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. Cremation will follow the service.

Memorials may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
