Eugene J. "Gene" Giordano

Eugene J. “Gene” Giordano, 71, of Scranton died Sunday March 3, 2024 at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Genevieve “Gemma” Capalongo Giordano. He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, Class of 1972. Prior to retirement he was employed by Gould Battery/GNB. He was president of the IBEW union. He was a member of St. Lucy’s parish.

A football fan, Gene rooted for the Las Vegas Raiders. One of his favorite weeks of the year was spending time with his friends on the annual Delaware Dilemma canoe trips. Above all he loved his family and looked forward to reunions and get togethers because family was most important to him. He enjoyed helping others and was generous to those he cared about. If you were Genes’ friend you were his friend for life. He will be missed by all who knew him.

The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, especially Jennifer Freund, Dr. Kerry and the amazing nurses who made his last days peaceful. We are also grateful for Fr. Herb Keller, SJ who provided comfort and care to our family.

Surviving are two sisters, Patricia Vaccaro and husband William, Scranton; Frances Ruvolo and husband Rick, Oro Valley, AZ., nephew, Nicholas Vaccaro; a great-niece, Cassidy Vaccaro; many cousins, especially his bestie Joanne Vitale and stylist Mary Jo Noone.

Prayer service will be held Friday evening at 5:30 pm in the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., Scranton. Interment in Dunmore Cemetery will be private. Friends and family may pay their respects Friday from 4 pm until time of service in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the University of Scranton Center for Services and Social Justice, 900 Mulberry St. Scranton, Pa. 18510 and or to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 30 E.D. Preate Dr., Suite 108, Moosic, PA 18507.
