Harry Kenneth Durst Obituary

Harry Kenneth Durst, 92, of Grantsville, MD, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Garrett Regional Medical Center, Oakland, MD.


Born November 18, 1931, in Frostburg, MD, he was the son of the late Harry C. and Mary Margaret (Bittinger) Durst. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Esther Marlyene (Hetrick) Durst, March 2, 2020.


Harry was a lift truck operator for Harbison-Walker Refractories and after his retirement he assisted his daughter and son-in-law, at the Newman Funeral Homes. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a member of the Grantsville Post 214, American Legion, and the Emmanuel Lutheran Church.


He is survived by two daughters, Kay D. Perry, Accident, MD; Carol A. (D. Lynn) Newman, Grantsville; two sisters, Karin Durst, Grantsville; Geni Sines, Friendsville, MD; four grandchildren, Jason A. (Amanda) Perry, Geoffrey L. (Katrina) Newman, Aaron C. Newman and Cameron B. Newman; his former granddaughter-in-law, Melissa Sines, who was still a special part of the Durst Family; six great-grandchildren, Logan, Isaiah, Ava, Brooke and Kendall Perry, and Genevieve Newman; two step-great grandchildren, Noah Lipscomb and Aubrey Harteis.


The family would like to extend special thanks to the Northern Garrett Rescue Squad and the staff in the ICU and 3rd Floor at Garrett Regional Medical Center, for the care and concern given to Harry. Also a special thank you to his neighbors who helped him and whose visits he enjoyed, Tim and Amber Warnick and family, Tyler and Mariah Billmeyer and family, Randall “Eppie” and Betty Jo Wiley and family, and his sister, Karin.


Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, 5-8 p.m. Services will be conducted in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Nancy Knol officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Grantsville Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by Grantsville Post 214, American Legion.
