Fredrick Brust passed away at Lloydminster Hospital at the age of 89 years on February 29, 2024. He was predeceased by his wife Mavis, father August, mother Alvina and his 4 siblings. He is survived by his four children Dwaine Brust of Young; Elise Brust of Young; Gwen (Ross) Murray of Manitou Beach; and Rick (Nicole) Brust of Lloydminster. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren; Deirdre Klassen; Mitch (Sara) Clarke; Morgan (Kelsi), Shae (Alison) and Jameson Murray; and Khye, Jessen, Cane and Kash Brust; and six great-grandchildren; Zane and Zoe Klassen; Jude and Lyra Murray; Wesley and Jovie Murray. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Fred was born in Esk, SK on September 14, 1934. He was raised in Benito, MB and worked on the family farm until well into his 20’s. He worked in the mining industry in locations all across Canada. Fate brought him to Noranda Potash Mine (now Mosaic) where he met his soulmate, Mavis. They married July 2, 1971 and Mavis always said when Fred proposed she laughed so hard she fell out of bed. They were married for 39 years and immediately he chose to become “Dad” to all 3 of her children. Fred’s favourite pastimes included fishing, hunting, camping and just going for drives to see the countryside. He also loved to play cards and socialize with family and friends. Fred enjoyed many family trips along the way, including Australia, BC, Mexico and throughout northern Saskatchewan, specifically Gordon Lake.

“He didn’t say a lot, but when he did it was usually poignant and/or hilarious.” - Ross Murray

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
