Jerry Nevins was diagnosed with Lewy Bodies with Dementia and Parkinsons less than 2 years
ago. He had an incredibly rough time and had significant progression in his symptoms since
being diagnosed. On his 85th Birthday 12/25 he got covid and the disease symptoms rapidly
increased and he declined tremendously.
On Wednesday February 28 Gail and daughter Traci received a call from Jerry's memory care
facility saying he had passed away. After they arrived he miraculously began to breathe again.
He passed 40 min later as Traci performed a calming meditation for both he and Gail. It was
incredibly peaceful, serene and a beautiful transition.
In his younger years Jerry Nevins was Known as “The Smart, cute, funny, Jewish guy”
The youngest of 3 boys, born December 25, 1938 in Lawrence, Massachusetts to the wonderful
Dora and Maurice Nevins. Dora was interviewed by the local newspaper about having the first
child born on Christmas . When asked how it felt she replied , “we'll, we're Jewish!
He was lucky enough to live in a building full of his relatives! He grew close with his cousins
Nessa and Marty, and remains close to this day. He's told stories of his father converting the
basement into a preserve cellar for all the aunties. Every Sunday all of the nearby cousins like
Ellen and Nessa and families would all get together. He loved his oldest brother David. His
childhood was happy, surrounded by so many that loved and adored him.
He loved to tell the story of how his elementary school caught on fire one Sunday and all the
children gathered around cheering on the fire!
Jerry has a deep love for Jazz and Sinatra!
As a teen he loved sneaking into Boston jazz clubs and being the only jewish guy. He even had
a nice conversation with Louie Armstrong one night wondering why he was there.
At 18 Jerry began to work on an engineering degree but had to leave school to care for the
family after his father passed away. He then worked in the mechanical world of jet and rocket
parts.
Jerry has been blissfully married for 60 years! He and Gail met in Boston through a mutual
friend. As Gail says, It was hate at first sight! Luckily Gail was persuaded into another date by
that friend. They had 3 children together Marc, a brilliant artist and carpenter - passed from
pediatric Leukemia in 1983 at age 18. A baby girl , who passed away just after birth
and Traci (53). Then, 6 years ago Jerry found out he had a daughter from before he met Gail!
Janis Cutler Gear is a dream come true for us. She was adopted by a couple who raised her in
New Jersey on Jerry Lane! We were destined to meet! Janis did get to know Jerry and spent
time with him over the last few years. We are thrilled to have her in our lives!
Jerry served 6yrs in the Army reserves . They put his brilliant engineering mind to work
measuring how far a bullet could travel.
He also held positions as top salesman for several parts manufacturers until he moved the
family to AZ in 1978. Jerry and Gail Owned and operated Rents Unlimited party and equipment
rentals for 17 years . After selling the shop he became the valley's one stop handyman who
could do anything for you! Electrician, carpenter , painter, mechanic, picture hanger! He really
enjoyed meeting so many new friends through his work.
Jerry and Gail started two synagogues in their lives. Both having thousands of members today.
Temple Beth Chaimim in New Jersey and Temple Chai in Phx. At Temple chai he served as vice
president and built the original ark, which has become their traveling arch today.
We would like to share the famous mothers Day story of 1967. Jerry and his mother had the
same car. He was having trouble with his and needed to figure it out. So, on mother's day he
took apart the engines of both cars on the front lawn and solved his problem.
We love Jerry for his incredible, corny sense of humor, his loyalty, his jewish pride, his love and
commitment to his family , his incredible love of his wife Gail, his pride of his grandson Nevin,
his passion for photography, his love of NASA, his amazing mechanical and engineering brain,
his diagrams, and the fact that he could fall asleep anywhere, even standing up.
There is a hole in the heart of the world with Jerry's passing . His brilliance, kindness, humor
and loyalty added to this world where he will be missed everyday. We are relieved that he is no
longer suffering in a body that was no longer of use to him. We know he stands beside us in
comfort as we grieve.
