MARIA CHRISTINA WESTELAKEN

nee Van den Broek

December 25,1922 – February 29,2024

Passed away peacefully at age 101 at Allendale Long Term Care Home, Milton, on February 29, 2024.


Predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Anthony Westelaken (2015), and by son Martin (Theresa) Westelaken (1991).


Cherished mother of Antoinette (Ralph) Harris, Dianne (John) Brennan, Jeanny (George) Wallace, and Loretta (the late Randy) McKellar.


Dear Oma to Reta (Wayne) Dronick, Vincent (Edyta) Harris, Neil Harris, Anne Marie (John) Caneco, Mark (Justyna) Brennan, Greg (Shannon) Brennan, Angela Westelaken, Daniel Westelaken, Joseph Westelaken, Kyle McKellar, Sean McKellar, and Natalie McKellar.

Great Oma to Lily and Luke Dronick, Maria and Marcus Harris, Zachary and Alex Harris, Ethan, Julian and Madeleine Caneco, Joshua, Nathan and Victoria Brennan, Liam and Connor Brennan, and Angela’s daughters Caterina, Adriana and Juliana.


Maria was from a family of 18 children and has 6 surviving siblings in the Netherlands as well as scores of nieces and nephews around the world.

Maria and Anthony were married in Berlicum, Brabant, Netherlands in 1952 and then emigrated to Ontario Canada to start a family and pursue farming. They were hard working people who were very dedicated to family and friends.

Maria was a talented seamstress and also excelled at gardening, painting and decorating, rejuvenating furniture, and all other things related to keeping a clean and beautiful home.


Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Allendale for the care and love she received and for the companionship of the friends she met there.


Family and friends are welcome to gather at the McKersie & Early Funeral Home, 114 Main St.E., Milton L9T 1N5 (905) 878-4452 on Tuesday March 5, 2024 from 4pm to 8pm. Vigil prayers will commence at 7:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Rosary Parish, 139 Martin St., Milton on Wednesday March 6, 2024 at 11am. Interment to take place following Mass at Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery, Oakville. All are welcome back to the Holy Rosary Parish Hall for a Reception and a time of fellowship.


Those wishing to make a donation in honor of Maria can be made to the Willow Foundation-activities for the elderly at Allendale LTC and to Holy Rosary Parish, which would be appreciated by the family.
