Obituary

Janet Elaine Slorp, a beacon of laughter and light, left us to join the grand comedy club in the sky on Tuesday, March 2, 2024. Born on Saturday, August 17, 1963, in Dayton, Ohio, she lived her entire colorful life in the city that she adored. Janet slipped away peacefully due to natural causes, leaving behind a legacy of love, humor, and thrift store conquests.

Born under the summer’s golden gaze, she was the cherished progeny of Marvin Lee Wigginton and Annie (née Raines) Wigginton, both of whom preceded her in the grand journey beyond life's veil.

Janet, known for her quick wit and even quicker smile, is survived by a clan that could rival any sitcom cast. Her loving husband and soulmate, Micah Slorp, stands as the leading man in the romantic comedy that was her life. Her siblings, best friend and oldest sister Nancy (née Wigginton) Ritchie and her partner-in-crime Boyd Ritchie, will miss her late-night prank calls and endless laughter. While her sister Marvina Pinny has previously taken the stage exit, her memory was always Janet's favorite encore.

The matriarch of a brood that could fill a minivan (or two), Janet leaves behind her oldest son Michael Slorp who inspired many of those prank calls to dear Nancy and his fiancée as well as life long friend Rachel McCormick; Janet’s middle son Lee Slorp; and youngest son Jon Slorp, along with his adored wife Alisha Slorp.

Janet's life was a tapestry woven with the vibrant threads of her grandchildren: Brittany and her fiancé Tj Bennet, Kaya, Precious, Brooklyn, Aleesa Combs, Madison, Gabe Robison, Kyla, Chloe, Jaydan Cline, Estella Asher, and Baby Jon, as well as the little man of the hour, great-grandson Carter Michael Bennet. Each of them carries a spark of Janet's indomitable spirit.

Janet's extended family, a veritable who's who of relatives, will dearly miss her legendary holiday dinners and the stand-up routines she called toasts. Her niece Jamie Ritchie Larrison and husband Kenny; nephew Johnny Ritchie and wife Lauren Ritchie, their children being Janet's great niece Julie, great niece Samantha, great Nephew Memphis, great nephew Leo, great niece Lydia, as well as the comedic troupe of nephews and nieces including Curtis, Brandon, Morgan, lil' Brandon, Kiser, Ellie, Clayton, Kenneth, Sydney Dre, Jordan, Nathan, Emily, and Haylee Johnson, will forever cherish the memories of her uproarious laughter and sage advice. A last but not least the youngest and newest member of the Clan that be taught all about his Great Aunt as he grows up, Blake Wigginton.

Janet's life was a masterclass in nurturing and joy. A graduate of Ruskin Elementary and Belmont High School, she dedicated over 25 years to caring for others as a certified nursing assistant. Her colleagues and patients didn't just respect her; they adored her. She was the Florence Nightingale of humor, often reminding her young coworkers that "You can't be sad while serving others, unless you're serving a life sentence."

Her interests were as eclectic as her sense of humor. A devoted fan of "Dr. Phil" McGraw, she often quipped, "If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise, they'll kill you. And “it’s better to be pissed off than pissed on!” These gems, borrowed from the legendary Oscar Wilde, and wild but sound advice of one of favorites Stone Cold Steve Austin, were mantras she lived by. Janet found her greatest joy in the presence of her family, cherished friends, her compass and rock in this world her husband Micah, were all her constant source of material for her impromptu living room comedy skits.

A pro at thrift store shopping, Janet turned bargain hunting into performance art. The Corner Cupboard of Dayton wasn't just a store; it was her stage, and she was its most dazzling performer. Her absence will be felt in the quiet corners of every aisle, as where laughter once echoed between the racks of second-hand treasures.

Janet's life was a symphony of moments that made you snort with laughter. She was the embodiment of the phrase "to live in hearts we leave behind is not to die." Her story doesn't end here; her light still shines brightly, she is just down the hall, right around the corner, it continues in every joke told, every hug shared, and every life she touched.

In the end, Janet would want us to remember her with smiles, not tears. She would want us all, to remember how happy she is to be reunited with little girl Eliza forever more never to be parted again. This show called life had been a drag without her favorite sidekick. The great comedian Bob Hope once said, "I don't feel old. I don't feel anything until noon. Then it's time for my nap." Janet may have taken her final nap, but her spirit will dance on, urging us all to find the punchline in every day.

Goodnight, dear Janet. May your laughter echo through eternity, and may we all be so lucky to have a standing reservation at your table in the great comedy club above. Rest well beautiful, we will all miss you sorely and surely until we meet again.

May She Rest In Peace
