Lars Hesje died February 10, 2024 in his sleep at his residence at Newmarket Manor in Tisdale, Saskatchewan. He was 98. He was born in Time, Norway on June 11,1925 to Johan Arnt Hesje and Karen Kverneland Hesje becoming their 5th son.

In 1928 the family took the courageous step of packing up their young family and moving to Saskatchewan, Canada. Originally located in the Birch Hills area, Saskatchewan. The family eventually ended up permanently in Crooked River, Sask. Lars remained in Crooked River for most of his life until relocating to Tisdale in his 80’s.

In 1947 he married Signa Hoyum and eventually welcomed two sons Ralph and Harvey. After nearly 73 years of marriage, Signa passed away in 2021.

Lars took over the local Blacksmith shop in Crooked River in 1947. Welding became his lifelong vocation.

Lars has always been known for his unending sense of humor. Despite his unchanging repertoire of jokes and Grandma’s admonitions “Grandpa!“ they never changed. Keeping us all laughing no matter how many times we heard the same ones! Newmarket staff assured us he continued his jokes to the end.

Besides his family, Lars loved a few other things. Nice suits, fast cars, his boat and skidoo, golf, curling, traveling here and there, standing on his head and cartwheels. He was proud of his Norwegian heritage and boasted to anyone who would listen, especially if they were Swedish or Danish!

Lars was active in the community contributing his spare time to town council, hall & curling club boards, history book committee and to Crooked River Lutheran Church over the course of his life. His faith guided him throughout his life. He was respected and held in esteem by friends, neighbors and family all during his long life.

Lars was predeceased by his parents, Johan (1970) and Karen (1987), his wife Signa (2021) brothers, John (2006), Kaari (2012), Tannes (2013), Johan (2018).

Sisters-in-law, Pearl, Geneve, Mabel & Ruth, Gertrude, Olga, Martha; Brothers-in-law, Clifford Gullickson, Nels, Lawrence and Jacob Hoyum.

Lars leaves to mourn his sons, Ralph and Harvey; daughters-in-law, Carol Hesje, Cecilia Hesje and Lynn Carpenter; grandchildren, Robin Hesje, Christopher Hesje (Zoe Klingler) and Jaclyn Hesje Platis (Constantine Platis), Shawn Hesje (Beverly Fowler), Candice Hesje Luchinski (Nathan Luchinski). Great grandchildren, Lydia Luchinski, Christiane and Alexandra Platis and Camryn and Raylen Hesje. Sisters Carrie Gullickson, Ruth (Clarence) Hagen, Betty (Lyle) Lambert and brother Rev. Harold (Elaine) Hesje; sisters-in-law Lois Hoyum & Maryellen Hoyum, also numerous very dear nieces and nephews
