Amy M. Lee Obituary

Amy M. Lee, age 94, of Glenwood, died peacefully at home on Thursday, February 29, 2024. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 7th at Glenwood Lutheran Church, with Rev. Krista Lee officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Glenwood and will continue at the church on Thursday, one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.

Amy Marie Strom, daughter of Alvin and Lyla (Holtan) Strom, was born on December 9, 1929 in Dawson, MN. She grew up in Dawson and after high school furthered her education at Hamline University and the University of Minnesota, where she attained a degree in social work. On August 5, 1951, Amy was united in marriage to Gordon E. Lee at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson. In 1953, the two moved to Glenwood, where Gordon joined the medical practice of Dr. E.M. Elsey. They found Glenwood to be a wonderful place to work and raise a family so they set down roots and established their permanent home.

Amy was a homemaker, a doctor’s wife, a political activist, and a hospice social worker. She, Gordy and family camped, canoed, hiked, skied, and had adventures all around the world. Amy’s hobbies included reading and reciting poetry. She read novels until she couldn’t see, and then started watching more TV because, though her hearing was going, she could always turn it up. Amy was a member of Glenwood Lutheran Church for all of her adult life. She was active in Democratic politics for many years and treasured her experiences as a powerline protester. Most of all, she loved her family unequivocally.

Amy died peacefully, at home under the care of Glacial Ridge Homecare and Hospice, on Thursday, February 29, 2024, not of her own will, but on her own terms.

Amy is survived by three sons, William, (Patricia) of Minneapolis, David, (Annabel) of New York, and Richard (Sherry) of Minneapolis; one daughter, Ann (Frank) Gorrissen of Germany; five grandchildren, Andrew, Irene, Gordon, Nicolaus, and Michael Jordan Lee; two nieces, Amy and Marin; one nephew, Mark; many true, wonderful friends, and her cats, Chloe Jean, and Alma Marie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Lyla Strom, her husband, Gordon in 2010, and her sister, Lorraine Seaquist.
