Chong Hirthler Obituary

Chong Hirthler, 67, of Colorado Springs, passed away February 28, 2024. She was born to parents Bong Su Chong and Choi Gong Soon, June 26, 1956, in Young Kwang, Chon Nam, South Korea. She married Stephen Hirthler in December of 1981, and they lived in many places via the US Army before settling in Colorado Springs.

Chong was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was small in stature but had a big personality and an even bigger heart. She was extremely hard working, dedicating 23 years to the Mitchell Hall Food Service Team at the Air Force Academy. She was well-known and loved across the 10th Air Base Wing, the Preparatory School, and throughout the Cadet Area. Cadets, faculty and staff enjoyed her thoughtfulness and mentorship. She was always there to give encouragement and a kind word to brighten anyone’s day. She was known for being outspoken, fearless and for having endless energy and spunk.

Chong is survived by her husband, Stephen; sons, Garry (Tony) Miller, Chris and his wife Lisa Hirthler; grandchildren, Keegan, Kaelynn, Charlie and Sunny. She is also survived by numerous family members in both the United States and South Korea. She was preceded in death by her parents and older brother.

Chong leaves an incredible legacy behind. This loss is being felt by so many that knew her personally and knew of her through her many accomplishments. She will be forever loved.

A private celebration of life is being held at the convenience of the family.
