Patricia M. Palmer Obituary

Patricia M. (Stafford) Palmer, 84, passed away peacefully Feb 23, 2024. A 63 year resident of Rensselaer Falls, NY, Patricia had resided for the past four years at the Nottingham in Jamesville. Patricia was born in Hermon NY to Claude and Dorothy (Austen) Stafford. She met her future husband, Charles Allen Palmer, while roller-skating at Lazy River in Hermon. They were married for 58 years.

Patricia was predeceased by her husband, Charles in 2014. She was predeceased by brothers-in-law, Simeon, Lynn, and Harold Palmer; as well as all her siblings, Norman, John, Carol Ann Pelno, Jeanette “Betty” Metts, Joan DeLorme and June Stafford.

She is survived by sisters-in-law, Connie Palmer, Nettie Palmer, and Gail Eaton as well as brother-in-law, Claude (Janet) Palmer all of Rensselaer Falls. She is also survived by her six children, Laurie (Fred) Schoenhut of Avon-by-the-Sea NJ, Cheryl (Charles) Wood of Fayetteville NY, Anna Marie (David) Boprey Stanko of Ballston Spa, Dr Cynthia (Daniel) Elberty of Dryden, Charles Allen II (Megan Gilbert) of Lowville, and Brenda Palmer of Hudson. Patricia is survived by 19 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Patricia’s great passion was raising and showing poodles. Over four decades of breeding poodles, Palmer’s Cameo Kennel produced 40 American and Canadian champions.  Patricia was active in the St Lawrence Valley Dog Club, and as president took on the local SPCA as a community project. Over the next several years, she and other dedicated volunteer staff raised funds, increased adoptions, improved buildings and kennels and helped the organization out of financial crisis. The compassion, common sense and sense of humor that was so evident in her family life was shared with her community.  She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and caring friend.

Thank you to the staff of the Nottingham IR and AL for four years of wonderful care.  Also thank you to PACE-CNY and Loretto Cunningham staff 5th and 12th floors for their support and compassion in Mom’s last three months.

Arrangements are being handled by Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel. A graveside service is planned for early summer at Fox-Murray of Ogdensburg.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the St Lawrence Valley SPCA, PO Box 594, Ogdensburg NY 13669 or the Rensselaer Falls Fire Department, 250 Congress Street, Rensselaer Falls NY 13680.
