John Robert Belton Obituary

John Robert Belton, age 77, passed away peacefully in his childhood home at 309 N. Ohio Ave, Wichita, KS on February 24, 2024, after a diagnosis of cancer.

John was born on February 19, 1947, in Wichita, KS to Harold and Leopolda Belton. He attended elementary and middle school at St. Anthony Catholic School. He was a 1965 graduate of East High School before working at Plastic Fabrication. John was drafted into the U.S. Army and began his service in March 1966. He was stationed in Landstuhl, Germany where he was honorably discharged in August 1968 at a rank of Sergeant(T)-E5. When John returned to Wichita, he resumed work at Plastic Fabrication before opening B&B Battery with his brother Tom. He retired as a custodian with Wichita Public Schools.

John was married for 21 years to Mary (Sherbon) Belton and had two children, LaDonna Hale (married to Charles Hale) & Johnny Belton (married to Fernanda Belton). He is the grandfather of Sierra (Hale) Kelly, Vonda Hale, Noah Hale, Jordan Belton, Jennifer Belton, & Alena Hale. He was the oldest of four siblings, Marty Nowak, Tom Belton, and Frankie Belton.

John was quite a character. He was a loving father and grandfather, a caring big brother, and a good man. He never had a lot but always shared what he had with others. He enjoyed Saturday breakfast with his grandchildren, feeding the birds and squirrels, and spending much of his time teasing the waitresses at his favorite breakfast spots.

He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Leopolda Belton, who are buried in Tampa, KS. John’s body will join them there, and his spirit will join them in heaven.

Services will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 258 N. Ohio Ave, Wichita, KS, 67214, on Saturday, March 2, 2024. The Divine Mercy Chaplet will be prayed before the service 11:45 am. The funeral Mass will begin at noon. In memory of John, attendees are invited to a breakfast buffet at one of John’s favorite places, Beacon Restaurant, 909 E. Douglas (corner of Douglas & Mosley), Wichita, KS. Please join us there after Mass.
