<p>Lawrence "Butch" Ellis</p><p>May 1, 1943 – February 26, 2024</p><p><br></p><p>Larry AKA “Butch” Ellis of Somers Point died at 80 February 26 of complications from dementia. He joins his sisters in heaven, Pat and Paula, along with his father Lawrence and mother Pauline and his niece Terrie and nephew Chuck. </p><p><br></p><p>He was an avid car, golf, boat and fishing enthusiast. He was born in Philadelphia but raised in Somers Point. He served as a dive expert and dispatcher for The Somers Point Police Department. He also served in the Air Force as an aircraft mechanic in the Philippines during the Vietnam war. He was stationed at National Aviation Facilities Experimental Center (NAFEC). At the end of his career, he worked as a postal clerk and was union shop steward at the Somers Point Post Office. He also was very proud to be a part of the Coast Guard Reserve. </p><p><br></p><p>Larry was always quick with a joke and ready to offer a drink and a story to new and old friends alike. He will be missed by many and survived by his wife and dance partner Nikki, his sons Larry and Michael and wife Carolyn Ellis and his grandson Sagan.</p><p><br></p><p>A celebration of Larry will be held at Boakes Funeral Home, 6050 Main St., Mays Landing, NJ 08330, Friday March 1.
