Elizabeth M. Guadagno Obituary

Elizabeth M. Guadagno, 90, of Amsterdam, NY; passed away February 21, 2024 at home with her loving family by her side.


Born in Amsterdam on August 27, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Mary Mazur Ludwin.


Betty received her education in the Amsterdam school system and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School. She also attended the College of St. Rose in Albany, NY.


Betty was united in marriage to Philip Guadagno on November 26, 1966. They created a beautiful life together full of laughter, spending time with family and friends, and traveling. They also shared a love of music, and you could find them at the Amsterdam Riverlink Park dancing to live music in the summer


Philip predeceased Betty on November 16, 2016. Betty was also predeceased by a brother, Peter Ludwin.


Betty was a homemaker and former member of the Broadalbin Seniors. She was a member of the loyal order of the Moose Chapter 1185 in Johnstown, volunteering many times with Phil for the American Red Cross blood bank. She was also an active member of St. Stanislaus Church, serving as a Euchrist Minister for over 10 years. Most importantly, Betty was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend; she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.


Betty is survived by her son, Philip Guadagno (Liz) of Oceco, FL; her daughters, Mary Knapik (Richard) of Amsterdam, NY, Rosann Fagant (Tim) of Amsterdam, NY and Francine Hemstreet (Rick) of Johnstown, NY; one brother, Ray Ludwin (late Judy) of Amsterdam,NY, seven grandchildren, Nicholas, Dezerie (Mike), Ricky, Madison, Isabella, Morgan and Addison, five great grandchildren, Lily, Aurora, Giovanna, Lyric and Lilith and one great-great grandson, Giovanni. Nieces and nephews also survive. Betty was also the godmother of the late Mary Rose Gizara.


Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects to the family on Thursday March 7, 2024 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010 from 11:00 to 1:00, where a funeral service will immediately follow with the Very Rev. O. Robert DiMartinis officiating.


Interment will take place at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Amsterdam
