Abraham Gonzalez Obituary

Our dear patriarch, Rev. Abraham Gonzalez, passed peacefully from this world into the Heavenly Kingdom on Monday, February 26, 2024, surrounded by loving family members and in the comfort of his North Smithfield home. He lived a remarkable life for 86 years

Born in Guayama, Puerto Rico, on May 21, 1937, he was a dear son of the late Pedro Gonzalez & Angela Vasquez, and a loyal and beloved husband to Felicita Garcia Gonzalez for 66 wonderful years; together they raised ten beautiful children who now become their legacy.

In 1957, the family immigrated to the USA, first living in Rochester, New York. As a man who truly lived a life of service to God & His people, Abraham worked as a busboy in a local restaurant, a laborer for the City Sanitation Department, and finally as an associate at the Rochester airport.

Moving to Massachusetts in June of 1976, Rev. Gonzalez began his ministry in Milford and would selflessly serve the people of three churches during his tenure, and retire as Pastor of Iglesia Monte Sinai Church in Worcester, following many years of active ministry and distinguished service.

When not ministering, he enjoyed watching Western movies and television shows, especially Bonanza, The Big Valley, RifleMan, and Gun Smoke. Vacations and Summer times were special; he particularly enjoyed playing softball with his sons and the annual competition with his brother and nephews. Most of all, he loved family time and fellowship with friends and fellow church members; barbecues, birthday parties, and celebrations of any kind!

He always tried to live a righteous life, being an ‘open book’ for all to see that he worshiped, adored, and served Almighty God in the hope that others may follow in his path. Reverand Abraham Gonzalez was a man of deep faith and a living testimony and a constant witness to glorify his God. He treasured his daily time of prayer and Bible study.

He leaves nine children: Elizabeth (husband, Geraldo) Vazquez, Alberto, Wilfredo ‘Freddie’(wife, Carmen), Eliza ‘Lucy’ (husband, Jose A.) Torres, Daniel ‘Danny’ (wife, Soli Lopez), Samuel ‘Sam’, Pedro, Josue, and Abraham, Jr. (wife, Kerri) Gonzalez; 36 grandchildren; 62 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings: Carmen, David, and Enrique Gonzalez. He was predeceased by his son, Eduardo ‘Eddie’ Gonzalez, and was a brother of the late Esperito, Jesus, Lidia, and Luis Gonzalez.

Truly a ‘Good & Faithful Servant’, Rev. Gonzalez will be fondly remembered and revered as a caring husband, father, grandfather, and Pastor. May he rest now from his labors, be relieved of his sufferings, and eternally embraced by the Eternal Peace of the Risen Lord!

Services and visitation, to which family & friends are cordially invited, will be held in the Berarducci Funeral Home,185 Spring Street, Woonsocket, RI on Thursday, February 29th, from 4:00 – 6:00p.m.
