Newton Edward Fisher Obituary

Newton E. Fisher of Java, New York passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at the Buffalo VA Medical Center at the age of 93.


Newton, fondly known as Newt, was born to Kenneth and Irene (Beardsley) Fisher on January 7, 1931 in Hermitage, New York. Newt proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Newt was also a member of the Six Star Post in Strykersville.


On April 12, 1952, he married the love of his life, Etta Slocum. They were married 69 years until her passing on December 12, 2021.


He was a proud and supportive dad and grandpa - a true family man. He spent most of his career as a truck driver until his retirement in 1996. In the early 1980's his job took him to St. Louis, Missouri where he resided for over 30 years. Newt and Etta returned home in 2012. Over the years, Newt and Etta enjoyed cruising, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, playing euchre, spending time with family and friends, and helping to maintain acres of family property on his John Deere mower.


Newt is survived by his six children: Richard (Ellen) Fisher of East Aurora, Kathleen Fisher of Java Village, Brenda (Joseph) Conrad of Strykersville, Kenneth (Shannon) Fisher of Java Center, Jeffery (BJ) Fisher of Java Village and Barbara Luecke of St. Peters, MO; and his sister, Helen (late James) Post of Perry. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.


In addition to his wife, Etta, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harland "Bud" (Jean) Fisher and his grandson, Keith Conrad.


Friends may call on Friday, March 1, 2024 from 3-7pm at the W.S. Davis Funeral Home, 358 Main St., Arcade where a Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 10am with Pastor Lynn Hill officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Strykersville.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 6400 Sheridan Dr #320, Buffalo, NY 14221.
