Obituary

Ronald L. Jurcy, (age 82) of Streamwood, IL passed away peacefully on February 26, 2024, at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Ron was born to Margaret and John in Chicago, IL. He is the beloved husband of Lorraine (Troiano) Jurcy, loving father of Michael Jurcy (Dianna), Julie Farfan (Enrique), Debbie Jurcy (Dan), John Jurcy (Melissa) and Tom Jurcy (Cheryl). Loving Grandfather to Marco, Nicolas, Morgan, Jenna, Cole, Brennan, Kiera, Hunter, Maegan, Katherine, and Andrew. Great Grandfather to Luke, Wyatt, Charlie, Finnegan, Cecilia, Leo & Felix. Ron was predeceased, by his parents and sister Jean Fabbri (Eugene). He leaves an enduring legacy with 5 children, 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Ron was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, and honorably discharged in 1963 after serving 4 years on the USS Capricornus. After leaving the Navy, he embarked upon his marriage to Lori on November 30, 1963, and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past fall.

He spent his career in the fastener industry, culminating with his ownership of fastener sales agency, Alliance Sales, Inc., until his retirement in 2003. One of the great memories his children share today is him bringing home chocolate treats in the shapes of screws, nuts, and bolts to enjoy during the Christmas season. There are family photos of children covered in chocolate enjoying those sweet treats from Dad. Ron was a great provider and caregiver for his family and transitioned to pursue many other talents in his retirement years.

Ron and Lori became fixtures for their grandchildren’s games/events during their years together. In between those games, he honed his artistic talents as a painter. Frequently commissioned by friends and family for his artistic renderings. In 2015, the Hanover Park District had his oil & acrylic paintings on display for 6 weeks, which enabled him to reach a broader audience and appreciation for his gifts. As a gifted lefty, his artistic gifts left with him. Five children, all right-handed, and none of them can draw more than a stick man.

His retirement days included service with the Knights of Columbus, Mary’s Millenium Council 12801 and serving as an usher & greeter support for St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

He reacquainted himself with the game of tennis and regularly played 2-3 times a week in the mornings with an old-timer crew at the Centre Court Athletic Club in Hanover Park, IL. His lefty spin serve won him many points. He enjoyed playing tennis and the fun banter before, during and after those morning matches.

While he enjoyed athletic and artistic pursuits, Ron LOVED to go fishing. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting & shooting, but his trips to Canada (often being dropped off by seaplane) were always top of mind. His best fishing partner (son, John) was also his ultimate caregiver during the last months of his life. Dad, John and Jake (brother-in-law) spent valued days and weeks together over the years, fishing lakes in the U.S. and Canada. In recent years, he loved adding grandson, Marco to the mix. A fishing FAB 4 so they will tell you. They often brought home pictures and fish tales. Occasionally, fish. There’s no doubt Ron’s first question upon arriving in Heaven will be “where do we fish”?

Ron was known for his sense of humor, and making his family and friends laugh. He is missed more than words could ever say.
