Shirley Louise Graves Obituary

In loving Memory of Shirley Louise Graves (December 9th, 1938 - February 24th, 2024)

Shirley Louise Graves, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of her community, peacefully passed away on February 24th, 2024, at Shoreham Village Nursing Home at the age of 85.

Shirley was born on December 9th, 1938, in Chester, Nova Scotia, where she spent the entirety of her rich and fulfilling life. She was the loving wife of the late Ernest Graves, who preceded her in death. Together, they shared countless memories and built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and devotion characterized by regular Sunday drives to the valley and suppers with their growing family.

Shirley was the proud mother of two daughters, Colleen and Vicki. Colleen, alongside her husband Dave, brought immense joy to Shirley's life with their children, Ashley (Garren) Surette and Jon (Caitlin). Vicki, residing in Holden Maine with her husband Dave, remained close to Shirley, adding to her happiness with her daughter Brianna; and Vicki's step-son, Michael (Julia) and their son, Juhno. Shirley's dedication and love for her family knew no bounds, and she took great pride in being a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Shirley found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a passion for country music and singing, which brought her immense happiness throughout the years. Shirley's love for music was infectious, and she shared her enthusiasm with those around her. She shared special moments singing and enjoying music over the years, most recently with her special care partners at Shoreham.

She had much joy from spending time with her beloved great-grandchildren, Luke, Nora, Charlie, and Louis. Shirley's face would light up with pride and love whenever she was in their presence. Shirley shared many happy memories with her sisters Joan and Wendy as well as all of her close family and friends who visited and spent time with her over the years. Shirley’s family were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

In addition to her love for music and family, Shirley enjoyed social outings, particularly her spirited games of bingo. She cherished the camaraderie and laughter shared with friends during these gatherings, creating lasting memories that will be treasured by all who knew her.

Shirley will be remembered for her unwavering love, infectious laughter, and compassionate spirit. Her legacy of kindness and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

A celebration of Shirley's life will be held on Friday, March 1 from 2-4 pm with a Graveside service at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in Chester, followed by celebration of life at the East Chester Recreation Association Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Shoreham Village recreation program to support resident activities in Shirley's memory.

Special thanks is given by the family to the care team at Shoreham Village for their kind and compassionate care, and Shirley’s family and friends who spent time comforting her as she neared the end of her life, recognizing; Joan, Wendy, Doris, Jose and other special friends.

Shirley will be dearly missed but never forgotten. May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love and light she brought into the world.
