Born on September 23, 1934, in Inola, Oklahoma, James's life was marked by dedication, service, and a passion for the mechanical world.

James's journey began in the small town of Inola, where he grew up with a fascination for how things worked. This curiosity led him to a distinguished career in the military and civilian sectors. After obtaining his high school diploma, he proudly served his country for 14 years in the Air Force, where he honed his skills as a Jet engine maintenance technician. His commitment to excellence continued in his civilian life, where he became a certified instrument tech, as well as a certified gas and steam turbine-generator tech. His work ethic and expertise were unparalleled, and his contributions to the field were significant.

James was blessed with two sons from his first marriage to Loyetta Brewster, and a stepdaughter from his second marriage to Delores Honeycutt. James was a loving father to Timothy James Dunham, who passed away in 2021, and to Michael A. Dunham and wife, Holly of Las Vegas, and Rita Hufstuttler. He was a doting grandfather to Marshall Dunham and wife, Amanda, Jeannie Dunham, Kristen Dunham, and Tiffany Drew, and a proud great-grandfather to multiple great-grandchildren.

James was a man of many interests, all of which reflected his meticulous and organized nature. He was a dedicated Christian and the longest and oldest church member at the Baptist Church in Adair, Oklahoma. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his actions and relationships. James's love for cars was legendary; he owned over 80 cars throughout his lifetime, each meticulously refurbished to showroom quality. His dedication to detail extended to his lawn and garden equipment, which he maintained with the same care and pride as his vehicles.

An avid fisherman, James relished the quiet patience of the sport, with crappie being his fish of choice. However, he also enjoyed the thrill of landing the occasional sturgeon. His mechanical interests weren't limited to cars; he took great pleasure in maintaining lawn mowers, treating them with the same reverence as his prized automobiles. James's love for the outdoors was evident in his commitment to his lawn, which he kept immaculate, and in his energetic walking routine, covering six miles a day until his 89th birthday.
