Richard "Ricky" Douglas Kibler, Jr. Obituary

Richard Douglas Kibler, Jr., 70, of Woodstock, VA passed away Saturday, February 24, 2024. He was diagnosed with Lewy Body and Alzheimer’s Dementia in 2021 and with his passing, has finally found peace.

A native of Strasburg, VA and 1972 Graduate of Strasburg High School and Triplett Technical Institute / Automotive Technology, Ricky lived and breathed cars. They were his passion, and he was still talking about them until the very end. After a brief career at the Shenandoah County School Bus Garage, he started his own garage on Back Road in Maurertown in 1983 and moved to South Main Street in Woodstock in 1993, where he and Melissa along with many dedicated employees ran Kibler's Garage, Inc. until 2022.

Many people walked hand-in-hand with Ricky throughout the stages of his disease. The family is deeply grateful to the community of friends who surrounded them with love and support; the doctors at UVA, who kept Ricky safe and comfortable; to the wonderful loving team at Greenfield Reflections Memory Care, who welcomed him into their facility when he needed additional care and, to Blue Ridge Hospice, who offered tender loving care and helped him find peace when he was ready to pass. No words can express the appreciation for the support and love of Pastor Nate Robinson and Pastor Bobby Funkhouser throughout Ricky’s journey. Our family was truly blessed beyond measure.

He is survived by his devoted wife and best friend of 45 years, Melissa, and his two loving daughters, Becky, and Elizabeth.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Richard D. Kibler, Sr. and Ima Jean Sperow Kibler Valentine, and Stepfather Ralph Valentine.

A Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Kibler will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 127 E. High Street, Woodstock, VA with visitation to follow.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W.
Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, VA 22601 who made sure he had the best care at the end of his life or to Shenandoah Valley Lutheran Ministries, 127 E. High Street, Woodstock, VA 22664 for the Luke's Backpack program, a cause he cared deeply about.
