Mr. Leon Hartwell Haynes went to be with the Lord on February 22, 2024, at the age of 89. Mr. Haynes was born on July 18, 1934 to the late Edgar Levi and Blanche Haynes.

Mr. Haynes was predeceased by his beautiful wife Gracie Haynes, son Tony Haynes, brothers Willard Haynes, and Clifford Haynes, sisters Ruby Sweda, Lois Gray, Lorene Hutson, and Opal Crowder.

Mr. Haynes is survived by a sister, Lucille Roberts, husband Tommy. Brothers James Haynes, wife Patsy, Grover Haynes, late wife Judy, and Larry Haynes, wife Lynda. One daughter Mylinda Sampson, husband Rocky, adopted son Corey Matherly, two step-sons Gary Matherly, wife Lori, Scott Matherly, wife Stephanie. Eleven Grandchildren- Sherri, Tammy, Tony, Michelle, Melissa, Jessica, Kimberly, Michael, Matthew, Justin, Grayson. Twelve Great Grandchildren- Alex, Tracy, Ricco, Josh, Brianna, Quinton, Little Tony, Brooklyn, Maddie, Kendall, Chase, and Lena. He also had a very special loving husky, friend, and confidant Caesar. Mr. Haynes loved his family dearly. He also loved golf, fishing, bowling, and horseshoes. He was pretty good at cornhole too. He was a faithful member of Hollywood Baptist Church for over 25 years, where he was famous for his homemade banana puddings.

Mr. Haynes worked many jobs over the years from pulling mobile homes, working in Burlington Mills, to Dan River Mills more than 25 years, and Walker Construction.

The family will receive friends at the home of Corey Matherly, preferably in the evenings.

Services for Mr. Haynes will be held at Hollywood Baptist Church on Sunday February 25, 2024, 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Terry C. St. John officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Norris Funeral Service is assisting the family.
