Edna King Obituary

On Thursday, February 22nd, 2024, Edna King (nee Skinner), 88 years old, formerly of Richard's Harbour, Gaultois, and Milltown, passed away peacefully at the Gander Long Term Care Home surrounded by her loving family.

She leaves to mourn with many wonderful memories: sons, Kevin (Catherine) of CBS, Daniel (Bernice) of CBS, and Daryl (Wanda) of Gander; grandchildren, Patrick (Megan), Stephanie (Tyson), Josh (Jenay), Richard (Bonny), Katelyn and Kristy (Doug); great grandchildren, Dylan, Nathan, Ryan, Jesse, Jeffrey, Joey, Daniel, Kristie, Stephen and Maeve; sisters-in-law, Betty Bowles (Ron) of GFW, Olive King of CBS and Betty of Lethbridge, Alberta; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Edna is predeceased by her husband, Harry; parents, Ephraim and Winnie; parents in law, Albert and Caroline King; sisters, Rebecca and Effie; brothers, Ephriam and Chesley; brothers in-law, Jim and Lloyd King; sister in-law, Marlene; and daughter-in-law, Emma.

Edna was born in Richards Harbour on September 25th, 1935. She was orphaned at the age of 10 and raised by close family in Richards Harbour. She later moved to Gaultois in the 1950s where she met and married her husband, Harry. Together, they raised their 3 boys; Daniel, Kevin, and Daryl. In the 2000s, Edna moved to Milltown and resided at the Greenwood Manor Seniors Complex where she lived until 2021. It was here where she gained a large circle of friends, whom she thought the world of. She spent many evenings playing cards in the common room, sitting outside enjoying the weather, or reading a good book. She also enjoyed her daily outdoor walk right up until she entered her 80s. Although Edna endured many hardships throughout her life, she remained a positive, bright light, enjoying each day she had. She embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, strength, and an unending generosity that could be seen in her care for her family.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the staff of Gander Long Term Care for caring for Edna during the time she was with you. Your kindness will not be forgotten.

Visitation will take place at the Christ Anglican Church at Milltown on Tuesday, February 27 from 5pm to 8pm.

Funeral Service will be held at Christ Anglican Church at Milltown on Wednesday, February 28 at 11:00 am with Rev. Gloria Wendover and Rev. Sandra Roberts officiating. Interment will follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Milltown.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Canadian Cancer Society or The Alzheimer's Society of Newfoundland and Labrador in Edna’s honor.
