Donald E. Kunz
<p>Don E. Kunz, age 91, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2024, at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis, Illinois. Don was born on March 14, 1932, in Chicago to James and Sue Kunz. He served in the US Coast Guard for 3 years during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1955. Don married Marilyn Murphy on September 3, 1977, and she survives. Don and Marilyn operated the Mansion of Golconda for 20 years and later operated a bakery and catering business in Grand Rivers, Ky until failing health brought them back to Golconda.</p><p><br></p><p>Besides his wife, Don is survived by his children Glen (Patty) Kunz of Houston, TX, Daryl (Aisha) Kunz of Durham, NC, Valerie (Tom) Sikorski of McHenry, IL., stepchildren Tom Murphy of Chicago, Maureen (Alex) Stafford of Golconda, IL, Michael (Rhonda) Murphy of Melrose, WI. Also survived by sisters Marie Ring and Judy Anderson, 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren with 1 more on the way, and 2 step-grandsons. He is also survived by his cat Thumper, the world’s most loyal cat.</p><p><br></p><p>Don was predeceased by his parents, daughter Laura Kunz, brother Jimmy Kunz, and brothers-in-law Ken Ring and Duane Anderson.</p><p><br></p><p>Graveside services to be held 11:00 am on February 24, 2024, at Waltersburg Cemetery in rural Pope County, IL.</p><p><br></p>Obituary
