Maxine Lance Bates Obituary

Maxine L. Bates, 85, of Asheville, went to her heavenly home to be with Jesus on February 20, 2024 at her home.


Maxine was born December 19, 1938, in Buncombe County to the late Ernest B. and Sarah M. Brown Lance. She ran paper routes for a number of years for Asheville Citizen Times and USA Today. She also worked as a Camera Operator for the Register of Deeds, Buncombe County Records until her retirement. She was a member of Emmanuel Full Gospel Church. Maxine will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.


In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sons, Harold Bates, Jr. and Steve Bates, brothers, Cecil D. Brown and Lawrence Lance; and sister, Ruby Lance.


Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Dianne Hollifield (Roeby) and Deana Kinney of Asheville; sons, Philip Bates and James Bates (Angie) of Asheville; stepsons, Keith Bates of Mills River and Mike Bates (Sallie) of Killeen, TX; brother, Bill Presley of Asheville; seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.


A graveside service will be held Friday, February 23, 2024 at 11:00am at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Candler.
