It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Catherine Louise Whalen (Rehn), who passed away on February 19, 2024 at the age of 96.

Born on December 19, 1927 in Ossining NY, she grew up in Ossining and later moved to Yonkers NY and later Carmel NY. She was a dedicated and loving wife to her late husband, Donald Whalen, and a devoted mother to her children, Thomas Whalen, Donna Kerr (Roger Kerr), Richard Whalen, Robert Whalen (deceased) and Kathryn Valencia (Jose Valencia).

Catherine lived a fulfilling life. She had a passion for cruising (with her late brother, Raymond Rehn and sister-in-lawn Ellen Burns Rehn), knitting, reading Nora Roberts and doing crossword puzzles, in her free time.

Catherine was a kind and generous soul always putting others needs before her own. Her love and compassion extended to all around her.

Catherine is survived by her children (listed above), nineteen (19) grandchildren and twenty-eight (28) great grandchildren who will miss her dearly.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 29th from 4-8pm at Balsamo-Cordovano Funeral Home in Carmel NY. A private funeral service will be held for immediate family members only.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. James the Apostle Catholic Church in Carmel NY in memory of Catherine Whalen.
