Obituary
LEE – Elizabeth Bean (Haskell) Mallett was born January 9, 1940, to Madison and Ethel (Porter)
Haskell,
She grew up with four siblings in the center of Lee across from Grandfather Harold Haskell’s
Store. She graduated from Lee Academy in 1958. Accepted into Eastern Maine General
Hospital’s School of Nursing, she studied Pediatric and Obstetrics, then affiliated with Children’s
Hospital and Boston Lying In. Graduating in 1961, she and fellow nurse mate Belle Osgood
Clendenin returned to Millinocket Community Hospital for employment. Together they
delivered the 1962 New Year’s Baby as a train prevented the doctor from attending the birth.
Libby continued nursing throughout the years in communities, home to home, PVH, and lastly as
School Nurse for MSAD #30 and Lee Academy before retiring.
On February 11, 1959, she married Gary Mallett. They started to build a home and a family by
the shores of Silver Lake in 1962. Well-rounded in music, literature, and athletics, she
appreciated education and valued common sense.
Dearest friends shared days raising children, sewing, quilting, swimming, and skiing until she
could no longer. Libby purposed to be content in later years. While physical limitations
confined her to her home with Gary faithfully attending to her. She expected each new day to
hold gifts from the Lord, with no exception as last goodbyes were gifted to her from family and
beloved friends. Confined no longer, she became present with the Lord February 14, 2024.
Remaining are her husband of 65 years, Gary Mallett; three children Phillip Mallett and wife
Joanne, Andrew Mallett and wife Christine, and Jennifer Thompson and husband Galen, Jr.;
seven grandchildren, Katelyn Doiron and Lance, Rylie Trott and Dustin, Carrie Doane and Kent,
Isaac Mallett and Jasmine Sparks, Samuel Mallett and fiancé Paige Belanger, Tyler Thompson
and Kayla, Zachary Thompson and fiancé Shania Simonds; nine great grandchildren, Addley and
Hollis Trott, Colby, Henry and Holden Doane, Ellie, Madison, Eli, and Marty Thompson; a
