Obituary

Peggy Ann "Grandmom" (Greenwood) Cathey was known as a kind, generous, funny, and loving person. She had the ability to create a warm haven of love and laughter in this chaotic world. She had a knack for finding beauty in the smallest things.

She was a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a loving wife and the most amazing mommy a girl could be blessed with.

During her 84 years on this earth she was the most loving and compassionate person. She was always trying to make others happy and she would talk to anyone and always wanted to leave you with a smile. Anyone who knew her knows she never met a stranger and could talk the horns off a billy goat.

Peggy was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico, on June 14, 1939, to Alta Leona (Johnson) Greenwood and Avis Andrew Greenwood. She had one brother, Jerry Don Greenwood. Peggy grew up in Bangs, Texas, where she met Joe Wade Cathey. After she graduated, they were married on October 26, 1957, then moved to Fort Worth, Texas. They had two children, Johnny Wade and Penny Lee. They enjoyed camping, boating, hunting, traveling, and especially fishing. Her parents retired and sold their harvesting business and moved to Hector, Arkansas, in 1960, so when her husband retired in 1977 they moved their family to Hector. They became members of Hector First Baptist Church.

Peggy’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, friends, and fishing.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son; her husband; and her brother.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her only child, Penny and husband Verlin Pruitt; grandchildren, Mandy (Josh) Garrigus, and their four children, Chasity, Leona (Cricket), Christina, and John David, Travis Pruitt and his three children, Wyatt, Wesley and Laila; and Chelsey Hickey, Scotty Crow, Amanda Crow and her five children and grandchildren, Monica Parks and two children, Shawn Hickey and his children and grandchildren; five nieces and two nephews; Sandra Ratliff, Melody (Randy) Thames, Robin (Doug) Black, Debbie (Eddie) Williams, Sam Cathey III, Cathey (David) McKamey, Jerry Don Jr. (Tracey) Greenwood; 7 great-nieces, 8 great-nephews; 32 great-great-nieces and nephews; and several great-great-great-nieces and nephews; Leanna and Alvin Wood and 4 children, and Candy and Jonathan Davenport and 2 children; along with numerous friends she loved like family.

Her legacy will live on through all the love she shared and the many lives she touched. Let us remember what her life taught us: love deeply, live fully, be happy, and face all of life’s challenges through our faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

A memorial visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Friday, February 23, at Lemley Chapel.
