John Karayianis Obituary

John Karayianis, age 93, of Mustang, passed away on February 19, 2024. He was born on April 13, 1930, in Alexandria, Egypt, to Vasilios and Angelica Karayianis. Later, his family immigrated to the United States and lived in New York City.


After graduating high school, he was drafted into the army and went to fight in the Korean War. After returning from the war, he began working as a merchant marine. He met and married Angie Messimary and the family lived in Queens. In 1974, the family moved to Long Island and John began working for the public school system of New York where he worked in maintenance. He would later retire from the school system. In 1996, John and Angie moved to Yukon, OK, to be closer to their daughter. Later, John and Angie would move to Mustang.


John was a Shriner and was a Past Master at the Masonic lodge in Bethany, OK.


John was a lover of card games, and he also enjoyed talking about politics and sharing his political opinions with others.


John is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings.


He is survived by his wife Angie; his children, Spiro Karayianis and Chrissula Karayianis; and grandchildren, Sean and Cameron.


Public visitation will be held for John on Tuesday, February 27th, from 1-8pm at McNeil’s Funeral Service.


Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, February 28th, at 2 pm in the McNeil’s Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at Mustang Cemetery.
