Dorothy Dean Whatley Anderson was born on February 25, 1930, in Cartwright, TX, to Piercie and Opal Whatley. She went to see Jesus on , February 17, at age 93 while a resident at Whispering Pines Nursing Facility.

She attended Cartwright school through the eighth- grade year; she graduated at age 17 from Quitman High School where she was salutatorian of her graduating class. She also won the scholarship award.

Dorothy married Tom Kern Anderson in September of 1947. Gary Rhea Anderson was born in December of 1948; Barbara Gail Anderson was born in August of 1950; Anita Jean Anderson was born in January of 1952; Vicki Karen Anderson was born in January of 1953.

Dorothy was saved and baptized at Cartwright Baptist Church. She and Kern moved to the Clearwater Community in late 1951; Dorothy was a Sunday School teacher and active member at Clearwater Baptist Church for many years. She moved her membership to Walnut Street Baptist Church in 2002 and remained a member there until her death. Her strong commitment to God was a factor in leading many family members to Christ, and her relationship with Jesus sustained her in her twilight years.

Dorothy was an amazing cook and was famous for her chicken and dumplings and her caramel pies. She was an avid gardener and continued to work in her yard until October of 2023 when her health declined. She kept fresh-cut flower arrangements that she picked from her flower gardens. Dorothy also had vegetable gardens and canned and placed vegetables in the freezer yearly. She was also an excellent seamstress and made all the clothes for her and her daughters. She had learned to quilt while living in the Cartwright Community, and she made many quilts throughout her life.

Family was paramount to Dorothy, and she was the matriarch of the Anderson and Whatley families for decades. Dorothy loved to attend the local athletic events. She supported her grandchildren and great grandchildren in their events.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Tom Kern Anderson; her brothers Ralph and Buddy Whatley; and her son-in-law, Jerry P. Hale. She is survived by her son, Gary Anderson and wife Sharon of Winnsboro; daughter Barbara Hawkins and husband Buddy of Winnsboro; Anita Hale of Winnsboro; and daughter Vicki Scott and husband Greg of Winnsboro. She had 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren plus many nieces and nephews also survive her.
