Richard D. Baker Obituary

Richard D. Baker, age 90 of Derby, beloved husband of Nancy Baker, entered into peaceful rest at Griffin Hospital with his wife by his side on Sunday, February 18, 2024. Born in Iowa on January 25, 1934, he was a son of the late George and M. Ferne (McKeown) Baker.

Richard left Iowa in 1956 and entered the U.S. Army, which eventually brought him to Connecticut. He was stationed at the radar division of the Nike Missile site in Shelton. After his service, he worked at several jobs, including as a security guard at Sikorsky Aircraft. He later retired with the rank of Inspector from the University of New Haven Police Department after 27 years. Richard enjoyed many years of hunting in Maine and Nova Scotia. He also loved camping, traveling home to Iowa every summer, and was proud of the fact that he was able to visit the 48 contiguous states. He was also a college basketball fan and followed the UConn Huskies and Iowa Hawkeyes.

In addition to his wife, Richard also leaves his sonRichard Jr. of Roswell, GA; his daughter Judith of Ansonia, CT; his brother Raymond of Akron, IA, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his brother Robert.
