<p>Mary E. Whalen (Birney) passed away peacefully on February 15, 2024, in Waterbury, CT, at the age of 69. She was born on December 28, 1954, in Milford, CT. Mary is survived by her loving children, Jeremy Weber and his wife Heather of Oxford, CT., Stephanie Sidarweck and her husband William of Fort Mill, SC., Kasey Morrissey and her husband Sean of Stratford, CT., as well as her 11 cherished grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren that all called her Samma. She is also survived by her 3 sisters Sheila Oppel, Sally Galer and her husband Jim, and Ruth Bennett and her husband Robert, as well as her 5 brothers William Birney, Peter Birney and his wife Alice, Rod Birney and his wife Jill, Michael Birney and his wife Noreen, and Christopher Birney and his wife Donna.</p><p><br></p><p>Mary was a 1972 graduate from Stratford High School. She worked as a postal carrier for many years and enjoyed her retirement from Walmart by spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader, a pile of books always by her side. Mary loved all things sweet and sitting down to a good puzzle. One of her favorite places was in the warm sun and sand of the beach. Mary had an infectious laugh and a beautiful smile. She was generous and giving and genuinely kind. Her love for her family was immeasurable. Mary will be dearly missed by all who knew her.</p><p><br></p><p>Mary was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ruth Birney. A private memorial will be held at a future date for close friends and family.</p>
