James Swift Obituary

Swift, James Robert

September 4, 1962 - February 9, 2024

Jim passed away peacefully with loved ones by his side on the afternoon of Friday February 9th. Born on September 4, 1962 in London, Ontario, he was the loving father of Matthew and James, and brother of Gerry. He was predeceased by his parents Douglas and Juniece, and brother Doug.

Commonly known as Swifty, he was a natural born caregiver who had a significant impact on many lives. In addition to being a registered nurse for over 25 years in London and Kingston, he spent several years as a volunteer firefighter in Westport, and as an athletic trainer for his sons’ hockey and football teams and for the Westport Rideaus Junior B hockey team. When his health took away his ability to nurse, he volunteered his time with Canadian Blood Services. Jim was also a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion for all of his adult life.

Jim was an avid lover of sports, with golf, football, and hockey being his favourites. He passed these passions on to his sons at a young age by creating a backyard par 3 golf course for them, enrolling them in little league football, and plowing a hockey rink on the lake for them each winter.

Jim fought an incredibly long and courageous battle with his health, but his spirit was never broken throughout this entire time. He will be dearly missed by many for his humour, smile, and heartwarming personality.

A celebration of life will be held in the near future to commemorate Jim. Details of the celebration are to be announced at a later date.
