FREE EVENINGS AND WEEKENDS.*</p><p><br></p><p>Alexandra Gavalas passed away at the age of 94 on February 15, 2024. She was born on June 15, 1929, in Mytilene, Greece to Athanasios and Eleni Paleologou. Alexandra was one of four siblings and the only daughter. During a trip to visit her aunt in the United States in the early 60s, she met her husband George and fell in love. </p><p>After the sudden passing of her husband in 1971, Alexandra raised their four young children on her own. Her resilience, strength and courage inspire us all. </p><p>Alexandra was a talented seamstress who worked for a tablecloth manufacturer sewing linens and tablecloths for 25 years. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and sewing a wide range of garments for family and friends. She was a wonderful cook and an even better baker who took pride in her craft and loved to feed people. Alexandra relished her time spent in Mytilene during the summers through 2019 where she would stay in her childhood house.</p><p> Alexandra was an elegant lady with a pleasant demeanor and caring nature who was devoted to her family and had strong bonds with her friends.</p><p>She is survived by her children Maria Phili and her husband Marios, John Gavalas and his wife Rachel, Athanasios Gavalas, Eleni DeBord and her husband Jeff; her 5 grandchildren, Alexis, Demitri, Jack, Daniella, and Beck; and her older brother Niko and his family. Her husband George predeceased her in 1971 and she never remarried. </p><p>Visiting hours are Wednesday 4 – 8 pm at the Harrison Funeral Home, 329 Halstead Ave, Harrison, NY. Funeral Service will be on Thursday at 9:30am at The Greek Orthodox Church of Our Saviour, 2195 Westchester Avenue East Rye, New York 10580. </p><p>In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory are recommended to be made to The Greek Orthodox Church of Our Saviour, 2195 Westchester Avenue East Rye, New York 10580.</p><p>Eternal be her memory.</p><p><br></p>
