Richard Lee Raines

PETERSTOWN, WV – Richard Lee Raines, age 66, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2024. Born March 4, 1957, in Lindside, WV, he was the son of the late Lacy Raines and Fannie Crawford Raines.

Richard started working on cars at age 14 at Comer’s Garage and various other garages in the area. He later worked as a mechanic at Celanese for 29 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Lindside Christian Church, where he also served as a deacon. Additionally, he was a former member of the Lindside Volunteer Fire Department. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, David E. “Bubba” Raines and Ronald Raines. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 36 years, Melissa Butler Raines; three sons, Anthony Raines of Peterstown, WV, Bradley Raines and wife Heather of Stuarts Draft, VA, and Richard “Richie” Raines Jr. and Tara of Camp Creek, TN; one daughter, Amanda Belcher and husband Ryan of Peterstown, WV; eleven grandchildren, Cade, Adia, Luke, Emmy, Elly, Emmalee, Zoe, Richard, Sydney, Landon, and Jersey; three great grandchildren; four sisters, Marie Goodwin and Shelby Walker, both of Lewisburg, WV, Gladys Whittaker and husband John of Pembroke, VA, and Margaret Martin and husband Butch of Christiansburg, VA; and several nieces, nephews, other extended family members, and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, WV, with Pastor Randy Penwell and Pastor Terry Kornegay officiating. Burial will follow at the Broyles Cemetery in Peterstown, WV. Visitation will be held from 1:00PM until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home.
