<p>Gladys Sheets Williams, "Hun", 93, passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, February 12, 2024 at Christiana Care Union Hospital, Elkton, MD. Born in Clifton, NC on November 6, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Odas Jones Sheets.</p><p><br></p><p>Gladys was married to John P. Williams, Jr. for 44 years before his passing in 1996. She lived in the little home they had built and she so dearly loved in Darlington, MD for 58 years before recently relocating to Elkton, MD to be near her family.</p><p><br></p><p>Mrs. Williams was a seamstress and retired from the Gleneagles Sewing Factory in Bel Air, MD in 1981. She had a deep Christian faith and Franklin Baptist Church was an important part of her life. A member since 1967, she had been active in many ministries over the years, including choir, missions, the clothes closet and food pantry, and especially enjoyed helping with snack time at vacation Bible school. </p><p><br></p><p>Although never blessed with children of her own, she was an "adopted" mom to many children in her church and neighborhood. She had a deep love for her family and was happiest spending time with them. She enjoyed watching Baltimore Orioles baseball games, Tastycake Chocolate Donuts, feeding birds and watching the hummingbirds outside her kitchen door, reading, going out to eat (especially for fish), and camping with her husband and friends. She liked playing games such as rummy, Aggravation, Rook and Uno and recently discovered and developed a passion for bingo. </p><p><br></p><p>She will be missed by her friends and family. Survivors include her sister Linda (John) Tibbs and brother Robert "Pete" Mahaffey, all of Warrensville, NC, sister Mary Lou Greenway, niece and caregiver Suzanne (Brian) Mensch, all of Elkton, MD, nephew Robert "Bobby" Mahaffey of Scotts, NC, great nephews Robert Mahaffey and David Mensch and great niece Lauren Mensch. </p><p><br></p><p>She was preceded in death by her father, Russell Sheets, her mother, Odas Sheets Mahaffey, step-father, George Mahaffey, who raised her as his own, husband John P. Williams, Jr., infant twin brother, James Thomas Sheets, sister, Pearl "Toots" Mitzel, brother, Bruce Mahaffey, sister-in-law, Barbara Mahaffey, brother-in-law, Samuel Greenway, sister-in-law, Gloria Mahaffey and her nephew, David "Joe" Greenway.</p><p><br></p><p>Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Franklin Baptist Church, 2106 Franklin Church Road, Darlington, MD. A viewing will begin at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Darlington Cemetery. Pastor John Davis of Franklin Baptist Church will officiate. </p><p><br></p><p>In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Franklin Baptist Church, 2106 Franklin Church Road, Darlington, MD 21034.</p><p><br></p><p>Arrangements have been entrusted to Harkins Funeral Home, Inc., of Delta, PA. </p><p><br></p><p><br></p>
