Arthur Sidney Corliss Obituary

Arthur Sidney Corliss, 85 years, a resident of Berwick, died peacefully at his residence, on Tuesday morning, February 13, 2024 with his family by his side.


Arthur was born in Brentwood, NH on March 25, 1938, a son of Leslie and Phyllis B. (Tuttle) Corliss and attended Berwick schools. In 1959 he enlisted in the US Army and served his country for 3 years. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he worked at The Bleachery in Somersworth, NH and then worked as a painter at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 40 years.


He enjoyed puttering in the yard, tinkering with his lawn mowers and tractors, and collecting and recycling cans. But spending time with his family brought him the most joy.


He was a life-time member of the American Legion Post #7 of Rochester, NH, the Riverside Grange in Lebanon, and the York Pomona Grange.


Arthur was predeceased by his loving wife Phyllis E. (Grass) Corliss; a daughter, Roxanne Callahan; siblings Joan Murdo, Carl Corliss, Charles Corliss, James Corliss, Donna MacPherson and Kathy Bernard and by a grandson, Michael Spencer II.


He is survived by his son Daniel Corliss and wife Christine, of Lebanon, ME; daughters, Christina Spencer and husband Michael of Dover Foxcroft, ME, Leslie Guy of Berwick, ME and Linda Hutchins-Corliss and wife Bobbi-Jo of Berwick, ME; siblings John Corliss of Berwick, ME, William Corliss of Jay, ME, Judy Copeland of Canton, ME, Janie Hussey of Millinocket, ME, Ruthie Wallcott of Dover, NH and Aloma Tuttle of Lebanon, ME; 13 grandchildren and many, many great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.


A funeral service will be held at 1PM on Friday, February 16, 2024 at New Covenant Baptist Church, 285 Maple Street, North Berwick, ME, with Pastor Tyler Ray officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Berwick with military honors.
