Roland Keith Barnes, 70, passed away Friday, February 2, 2024, at the University of Kansas - St. Francis Hospital, Topeka, Kansas. Roland was born December 29, 1953, in Topeka, the son of Lorenzo Earl and Rhetta Doreen Douglas Barnes.


Roland attended Buchanan Elementary, Lowman Hill Elementary, Boswell Junior High and graduated from Topeka High School the centennial class of 1971. He joined the United States Air Force after graduation.


In his youth, Roland was active in many sports including baseball, football and basketball. As an adult, Roland continued to be an active participant in sports from his trusted recliner.


Roland was a trucker for 30+ years. He worked for different companies and also as an independent trucker. His last employer was L. Harrison Trucking Company.


Roland is preceded in death by both parents; stepmother, Marchta Barnes; stepfather, Lester Wilson; his brother, Derek Barnes; and son, Kamonae Carey. 


Roland is survived by his wife, Brenda Carey-Barnes; three daughters: Kakeland Barnes of Kansas City, MO, LeGhetta Carey of Topeka, KS and Kashi Carey of ElDorado, AR; two sons, Kewauke Carey of ElDorado, AR and Anthony Robbins of Topeka, KS; siblings: Larry Brown of Topeka, KS, Colin (Brenda) Brown  of CA, Jocelyn Lyons of Topeka, KS, Douglas Barnes of Dallas, TX, Donia (Mike) Mason of Waldorf, TX, Meleitha (Elizo) Cooper of Temecual, CA; stepbrothers: Bobby Johnson of Florida, Darrel Johnson of TX and Floyd Johnson of FL and William Wilson of San Diego, CA; stepsisters: Melodie Wilson of  San Diego, CA, Marietta Hodison of Temula, CA, Mynell Mosby of MI, Myrna Wilson of (NM) and bonus mom, Patricia Wilson of Chicago, IL. He is also survived by many grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and many other relatives (and if you are reading this, you probably related too. Pick a number!!!)


Crowd funding has been established to assist with Roland's service. All contributions will be paid directly to the funeral home and applied to Roland's service.
