Robert Daryl Kilcoyne Obituary

Robert Daryl Kilcoyne, of Wausau, passed away unexpectedly and far too soon, on February 7, 2024, at the young age of 26.

Robert was born March 25, 1997, in Stevens Point, WI; son of Steven Kilcoyne and Tammy Davisson. Robert grew up in various Wisconsin cities, ultimately graduating in 2015 from McFarland High School, just outside of Madison, WI. From a young age, Robert began displaying a gift for creativity. This creative side started before he could speak when he created his very own language! He would carry on complete conversations with people, pausing occasionally to see if they had a response, even though all who engaged with him had absolutely no idea what he was talking about. Everyone played along as if they fully understood everything he was saying. At 2 years old, his deep love for all forms of art began; he especially enjoyed drawing and painting.

As Robert grew, he began gravitating towards physically challenging activities such as wrestling, soccer, ju jitsu, moi tai, weight lifting, mountain biking, hiking and exploring nature; especially with his two best friends, Logan and Trenton. A favorite exploration spot was Pewits Nest, near Devil’s Lake. Here, Robert enjoyed spending time with his friends and cliff jumping; an activity he omitted when telling his Mother about his adventures. When Robert wasn’t seeking thrills in the outdoors, he simply enjoyed being in nature, taking in the beauty and serenity. Some of his favorite places to simply sit in solitude were Rib Mountain State Park and Dells of the Eau Claire. When spending time indoors, Robert enjoyed listening to electronic music and online gaming, often joining his Dad online for some friendly competition.

Robert’s adult life was riddled with heartache and pain; dealing with his mental health wellness and the challenges that came along with it, created some dark times in his life. But after every storm, comes a rainbow. On February 28, 2022, Robert became a father to two beautiful identical twin girls, Marceline and Finnley. The girls’ mother, Alexis, was another ray of light in Robert’s life. While the two weren’t meant to be together, their relationship was truly beautiful and Robert was so incredibly proud of the lives they created together. Robert’s girls were, without a doubt, his greatest accomplishment.

Despite his own struggles, Robert was always acutely aware of other’s feelings. If he could sense that something wasn’t right, he made sure he was there for them. Furthermore, Robert was the type of person that would stick up for and protect those that needed it. While his friends and family were everything to him, he genuinely cared about everyone around him. He also enjoyed making people laugh and his sense of humor did just that, and he had the most amazing smile, especially “the smirk”. He had one of the most beautiful souls - caring, empathetic and deeply emotional.

In the wake of his passing, his family wishes to extend a heartfelt message to those struggling with mental health challenges: May Robert's story inspire compassion and ignite conversations that foster healing and hope for those who are fighting similar battles. If you or anyone you love is struggling, please reach out for assistance with suicide prevention. Robert's struggle with mental health challenges is a poignant reminder of the battles many face in silence. Despite the shadows that clouded his path, those who knew him cherish memories of the radiant spirit that defined him. In honoring his memory, we can also shine a light on the need for empathy, understanding, and de-stigmatization surrounding these issues.

Robert is lovingly survived by his beautiful daughters, Marceline and Finnley; his parents and step-parents, Steven (Kris) Kilcoyne and Tammy (Kevin) Davisson; and his siblings, Makaela Kilcoyne, Devlin Kilcoyne, Reagan Zimny, and Aidan Davisson. He is further survived by his paternal grandparents, Robert & Sandra Kilcoyne and Michael Galbraith; maternal grandparents, Daryl & Winona Punzel, Mike Rabideaux, and Sarah Davisson; his niece Jeyda; his uncle & aunt, Scott (Stef) Kilcoyne; and many more aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Robert was preceded in death by a grandparents, Karol Harris, Bonnie Rabideaux, and DuWayne Davisson; great-grandparents, Winona & Steve Pisula, Elaine & Frank Punzel, and Jack & Glenda Waldowski; uncle, Blake Punzel; great-uncles, Jesse Withers, John Withers, and Tom Punzel; and great-aunt, Linda Gray.
