Obituary
We regret to announce the passing of Nancy C. Kelly. Nancy passed peacefully on the
evening of February 9th in Garden City Park, NY surrounded by her family. Nancy spent her life in
the Thoroughbred industry, helping to raise millions for equine research during her 32-year
career with The Jockey Club. She was also a Past-President and current Vice-President of the
NY Race Track Chaplaincy. As we mourn her passing, we do so with the knowledge that she
followed God’s plan throughout her life in service to others. She spent her time organizing
countless fundraising events, managing racing conferences, and focusing on clubhouse relations
for The New York Racing Association. Nancy played a key role in the creation and development
of several Belmont Park based organizations. Among them were the Belmont Child Care
Association, the New York Race Track Chaplaincy, and had served as the executive director of
The Jockey Club Safety Net Foundation.
In her personal life Nancy enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved to
travel and dine out, and enjoyed an occasional glass or six of fine wine. Nancy fought a long
battle beginning with ovarian cancer since February of 2019. It is comforting to know she was
surrounded by her family during her final weeks and will be dearly missed.
Nancy is survived by her sister Fran Dtugokenski, brother-in-law Ray Dtugokenski and
nieces Lisa Locurto and Michele Mirabile as well as four grand-nieces and two grand-nephews.
Nancy's late husband, Jack Kelly, an Equibase chartcaller and field supervisor, died in
November 2010 after a long battle with polycythemia.
The wake will be held Feb. 12, at 9 a.m. at the Leo F. Kearns Funeral Home, 445 E.
Meadow Avenue in East Meadow, N.Y. It will be followed by a Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Brigid
Catholic Church, 85 Post Avenue in Westbury, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Jockey Club Safety
Net Foundation, the New York Race Track Chaplaincy, or the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer
